Kwanzaa Community Celebration 2025 is scheduled from 11AM to 4PM, December 27 at Broward County's African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC), 2650 Sistrunk Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311. Established in 1966, Kwanzaa is a 59-year-old cultural celebration honoring African heritage, community, and values. It is not a religious holiday. Each day of Kwanzaa focuses on one of the Nguzo Saba, the seven principles of African cultures: Umoja (Unity); Kujichagulia (Self-Determination); Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility); Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics); Nia (Purpose); Kuumba (Creativity); and Imani (Faith). Highlights of AARLCC's Kwanzaa Community Celebration 2025 include: • Kwanzaa Marketplace: Vetted, local vendors with unique items for sale • African Dance Family Workshop • Face Painting • Drumming Procession • Performance: The History of Kwanzaa • Stories and Songs • Make-and-Take Kwanzaa Activities Additional activities throughout the day include movement and mindfulness, yoga and African dance. There will be dialogues on Kwanzaa 101, Investing in Today's Africa, Community and Reparations, Food as Medicine (cooking demo), and Mental Health and Healing. The Children and Family Zone will feature storytelling, creative arts, coding, gardening, and more. The event will also honor seven local leaders or organizations that embody Kwanzaa's founding principles with Nguzo Saba Awards. Anyone may nominate, and community members, colleagues, students, and family members are encouraged to participate. The deadline to submit a nomination is December 6, 2025. This event was generously sponsored by Friends of the African American Research Library and Cultural Center. Admission, parking and all Kwanzaa activities are free; registration is requested.
